I remember way back Groucho Marx interviewing a housewife on his show. It went something like this. Groucho asked her how many kids she had:
‘Six,’ she proudly stated.
‘Six kids?’ said Groucho.
‘Oh I love my children,’ the woman said.
Groucho: ‘I love my cigar too, but I take it out of my mouth once in a while.’
Too many of you! Let’s get a grip on this sex thing!
Man is put, by those who study such things, into the ‘plague species’ category along with locusts and vermin. Simply put, more food, more of them. If we look at a graph of human population growth we’ll find it in every way similar to that of a rat colony. The numbers are startling.
Seven billion humans now and climbing fast. We’re adding eighty million humans to the register each twelve months. While I type this sentence, around the globe, five humans will die and fifteen will be born.
It took humanity about two million years to reach a billion strong, now we are producing that number in less than twenty years. In other words Mankind has gone into full ‘plague mode.’
The first sign that a global collapse is imminent is a shortage of food. Some twenty-five years ago population outstripped food production for the first time in recorded history. If we look to the graph of human population growth from the start of farming twelve thousand years ago, we see a kind of flat line, some dips here and there due to plagues and wars, and then a steady climb from about 1800 onwards. Then it looks like the Matterhorn.
That’s where we sit now, right on top of the mountain. It’s my understanding that in this century population levels will explode to the extent that it will require the resources of two earths to sustain humanity.
I doubt any of this can be stopped. How are humans going to stop doing what they exist for?
